Such places had a subtle way to convey outsiders that they are
“those places”. Nothing extraordinary or flashy, they just
placed their house number in two different font sizes, One on
the door, one in the corner of the walls. ( Pink house!!!!

The place where Picasso charmed waitresses and turned the fortunes of the owner.
Picasso, to start with, had no money, usually the case with all the artists. Destitute and hungry, he once went to this restaurant and ordered a bowl of soup. After gobbling up the bowl, he remembered that he had no money to pay. Thinking out of the box solutions, he tried charming the waitress with a sketch of hers on paper napkin. It worked. The girl fell for it and she let him go without paying his bills.
Soon, It became a norm for Picasso. Each time he approached a new waitress and repeated the trick for free food. When this story finally came into light, the owner confronted Picasso and did the obvious thing. He demanded him to pay back. Now, since Picasso did not have had any money to pay, he instead offered him some of his paintings in return for the food. Needless to say what happened to the owner. Filthy rich would be too insolent a word for him.

An artists’ studio. Picasso and Modigliani, along with other noted artists lived here.
Once, there was a competition in Paris, to decide who is the best artist in the city. Picasso and Modigliani were unknown of during that time. When the results were declared, both the gentlemen were shown as the finest of all. Beaming with the results they ran out to celebrate. Now, the news of them topping the list was a public news and it so happened that a thief had been lurking near their apartment waiting for them to leave. Late after midnight, when these two returned from their celebrations they found that their rooms were in disarray with visible signs of missing paintings.
Funny story now, Modigliani found out that all his paintings were missing and started shouting and cursing the thief. Looking at the mess, Picasso sprinted towards his room to check if things were in order and was infuriated with what he saw. None of his paintings were stolen and his room was untouched. That night, whilst Modigliani kept cursing the thieves because all of his paintings were stolen, Picasso was crying because none of his were.
Picasso retired rich and unlike some of the other artists, he had a contended and peaceful life. And when he parted, his last words were “ Drink to art, Drink to life, and most importantly drink to my health for I can drink no more.”
